Family Fun on Thanksgiving Day

If you haven’t made the Sparks Turkey Trot part of your Thanksgiving tradition, you’re really missing out. It’s a great place to spend time with family and friends, and a healthy way to start a day usually filled with a whole lot of eating.    Participants can choose from a 2-mile walk or run (non timed) or a 10K (6.2 miles) run (timed). All three races follow the beautiful 2-mile path around the Sparks Marina Park with the 10K event extending into the surrounding neighborhood. Everyone receives a commemorative sweatshirt and post-race refreshments.    You can register online at www.active.com, by mail or in person at 98 Richards Way. Advance registration is $25 per person and is available until 5:30 p.m. on November 19. After November 19, registration will be taken on race day only (at the Marina) from 6:30 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. and the cost is $30. 10K race day registrations will be timed only if entry forms are received by 7:45 a.m.   Two dollars from each entry fee will benefit the Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful organization for local beautification projects. Additional proceeds go to the Sparks Parks and Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund.
